EcoScience Corporation assisted in the planning and implementation of restoration activities associated with two decommissioned farm ponds located on property of the Neuse River Waste Water Treatment Plant (NRWWTP).  The NRWWTP property is located adjacent to the Neuse River approximately ten miles southeast of Raleigh in eastern Wake County.  The two former farm ponds, referred to as Cody’s Pond and Pond #1, were identified as requiring removal of fill material and the subsequent ecological restoration of streams and headwater wetlands to a more natural condition.

The general goal of the project was to improve restore the natural drainage patterns, including the restoration of seepage slope wetlands and first-order stream channel where feasible, and plant floodplain areas and upland slopes adjacent to the stream and proposed wetlands.

Site restoration commenced in summer 2005.  Following site construction, approximately 0.2 acres of headwater wetlands, 600 linear feet of first-order stream channel, and 3.0 acres of Neuse River Riparian Buffer were restored.
